Robert Zemon, 61, founder of Creations Gallery at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia, died Saturday at Kennedy Memorial Hospitals/Cherry Hill Division.

An avid art collector, Mr. Zemon founded the art gallery at the landmark hotel in 1987.

"He took something that was of great interest in his personal life and shared that with a great many people by opening an art gallery," said his daughter, Stacy Zemon of Glastonbury, Conn.

A graduate of DePaul University in Greencastle, Ind., he obtained his degree in journalism in 1953. The summer after his graduation, Mr. Zemon went to work for the Wall Street Journal writing news briefs..

He later switched from journalism to advertising. "The journalism background gave him a springboard for his advertising career," said his son, Matt Zemon of Tampa, Fla.

In 1985 Mr. Zemon won the Bennie Award for Excellence in advertising for his work on the Civil War chess set that was advertised by the Franklin Mint. Between 1983 and 1987 he was vice president of advertising for the Day-Timers of Allentown ad agency and between 1979 and 1983 served as associate copy director at the Franklin Mint in Franklin Center.

Mr. Zemon is survived by another son, Tom Zemon of Los Angeles, another daughter, Shana Hargreaves of Tampa, Florida, and a brother I. Richard Zemon of Chicago.

Services will be held 2 p.m. today at Platt Memorial Chapels, 2001 Berlin Rd., Cherry Hill. Burial will be private.
