We always thought all the siblings went to the BALTIMORE HEBREW ORPHANAGE when Jacob Zemon died in a fire. (see attachment of the fire from the Baltimore Sun Paper)

The reason for Jennie needing a passport could be she needed to return to Russia to collect Jacob’s inheritance as explained in the news article. All we know is at some time all the kids were in the orphanage together and as the story went, upon getting out at age 18, all the children received $5,000 apiece. That would have amounted to $20,000 that had to come from somewhere. Sol worked out a scam and got out at 17. As my father used to tell us, with great pride, the brothers gambled it all away on the horses and card games and would ask Rachel to help them out.

At one time Sol and Abraham lived at the same address on Fulton Avenue and Rachel went on to become a head nurse at Hopkins Hospital before moving to Cincinnati Ohio, where she married and had 3 children. Abraham never married and would travel between Florida in the winter and Atlantic City in the summer. He was a bookie and never liked cold weather. Samuel moved to South Carolina married, opened a haberdashery and had a son named Jacob, who now lives in Florida.
