Mary Lou Niekamp Naples, FL

Mary Lou was born in Royal Oak, MI in 1929 and died at sea while on a cruise on March 13, 2013.
She is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie Whitfield and Heidi (Bruce) Sowatsky and five grandchildren.

In 1949 she married her high school sweetheart, Emerson Charles (Chuck) Whitfield and followed him in his General Motors career to live in Paris for 3 years and Caracas for 6 years.Chuck died in 1973 and Mary Lou and their two daughters returned to Michigan where the girls finished high school and college, married and moved away.

In 1985 Mary Lou met and married Lawrence A. Niekamp and moved to Marco Island, FL. Larry died in 1996 and in 2005 she moved to Aston Gardens in Naples.

While living on Marco Island, she served as president of both the Newcomers and the Alumnae Clubs of Marco.She was fond of music and sang in church choirs and served as organist at several churches. She also loved animals, travel and bridge.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at Aston Gardens in Naples, and interment will be in Royal Oak, MI, on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Roseland Park Cemetery.
